Haute Couture trend first appeared in France at the end of 19th century. In order to be “haute couture atelier”, membership to the Haute Couture Union (Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture) was necessary. There were very strict rules about employees working in each atelier, hourly wages, atelier decoration, manufacturing volume. Compliance with all rules was mandatory for union membership. Each atelier was responsible to prepare 2 collection with minimum 35-40 models for fashion show. All dresses were prepared only by hand and taking hundreds of hours. This human labor and skill oriented trend was appealed to a very special class. Therefore, Haute Couture, are the designs based on personal preferences and selection (colour, accessories, fabric etc).
